Pork producers encouraged to attend 2016 Missouri Swine Health Symposium, July 18 in Sedalia
The Missouri Pork Association, in cooperation with the University of Missouri Extension Commercial Agriculture Program, is hosting the third annual Missouri Swine Health Symposium on Monday, July 18, at the Pork Place in Sedalia, Mo.
The free event is open to pork producers, swine veterinarians and allied industry professionals. The symposium provides attendees an opportunity to hear from the swine industry’s leading producers, researchers and veterinarians, as well as to participate in question-and-answer sessions.
Attending veterinarians will be eligible to earn 6 continuing education units free of charge.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., followed at 9:30 a.m. by welcome and introductions by Rob Kallenbach, agriculture and natural resources program director for MU Extension.
The program includes Brent Sandidge and Scott Phillips of the Missouri Pork Association board on area and regional control efforts; Tim Safranski on changes to PQA Plus; Parker Hall of USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service on the feral hog problem; an update from Missouri Department of Agriculture field veterinarian Tonya Collop; veterinarian Dave Pyburn of the National Pork Board on complying with VFD; Iowa State University veterinarian Chris Rademacher on disease control efforts and preparing for your on-farm audit; National Pork Board area manager Rob Christine and Cody McKinley of the National Pork Producers Council on national pork programs and issues; and a panel discussion with veterinarians Todd Williams, R.C. Ebert and Pete Lasley.
The symposium will conclude with a market outlook and economic update from MU Extension agricultural economist Scott Brown and closing remarks at 4 p.m.
