Mirabile C-1 School District Celebrates 100 years of education March 8

Mirabile C-1 School District History as compiled by Marilyn White Williams 1983 in the book entitled Mirabile Reminiscences 1848-1983.

On March 8, 1916 five school districts in the Mirabile Community voted for consolidation. The districts affected were Mirabile, Plum Creek, Pleasant Valley (New Houghton), Webster Hall (Log Creek), and Lafayette (Bay). The members of the first Board of Education were: O.E. Eckelberry, I.A. Frost, H.B. Sackman, Q.M. Kemper, J.W. Elliott, W.A. McNary. Judge L.L. Frost conveyed to the new consolidated school district 1.5 acres of land to build a High School on. The land was valued at $175.00 an acre.

Mirabile School today is located at 2954 SW State Rt D, Polo Mo 64671. The new addition to the old Mirabile School was completed and students/staff were moved in November 5, 2001. The old school building is still used for some classes today.

Log Creek or Webster Hall

In the 1850s the Log Creek School, south of Mirabile was started. The building was a school house left from Mormon days. The teacher received $20 a month and was boarded around, but was expected to help with the work. A church and cemetery was possibly there at that time too, as a few stones are still near the school grounds, dated 1862. On Aug. 2, 1866, John and Eliza Chivers sold the adjoining farm to Milton Brelsford and reserved 1-1/4 acres to be used for a church and a school.

Mirabile School will be celebrating their 100th year on Tuesday, March 8th. There will be fun activities throughout the day and a BBQ will be held at 6 p.m. Please bring a side dish. Everyone is welcome!
