Jeffrey Griffith

Suspect arrested in Daviess County manhunt

A day-long manhunt came to an end when 43 year old Jeffrey S. Griffith of St. Joseph was arrested near State Route D and State Route J in Daviess County.

The hunt started Saturday, Sept. 5, after a Cameron Police Officer, Dustin McCloud, spotted Griffith in a stolen pickup at a Cameron truck stop. The stolen truck was taken the day before near Faucett and was pulling a stolen trailer loaded with stolen 3-wheelers. When McCloud attempted to make contact, Griffith took off at a high rate of speed northbound from the truck stop motel.

Officers pursued Griffith into Daviess County, just north of Kidder, where the suspect exited the vehicle after wrecking it and ran off into a wooded area. Officers found several stolen firearms inside the vehicle and believed that Griffith may still have been armed with a weapon.

Members of the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol along with several other agencies from the area began searching for the subject, setting up a perimeter to push Griffith out of the woods. He remained at large until Sunday afternoon when he was taken into custody by the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department. Griffith received medical attention from the heat and from dehydration.

Griffith currently had warrants for his arrest from Andrew County for resisting arrest and one from Clay County for nonsupport. His bond has been set at $50,000.
