Jerry Lee Mercer, 83, Hamilton, MO, passed away on May 13, 2025, at the Quail Run Nursing Home, Cameron, MO.
Jerry Lee lived a colorful life of travel and excitement but always loved coming home to the place he shared with his wife of 42 years, Pam, until she passed away in July 2018.
Jerry Lee was born in New Bern, North Carolina to Benjamin Mercer and Mavis Lee and an older sister, Connie. Eventually Jerry was moved to Key West, Florida, where he spent most of his youth. Jerry often bragged that Key West was "the best place to grow up." Younger siblings joined Jerry while living in Key West: David, Charles "Mickie" and Timothy.
Growing up in Key West was about the fishing, the swimming and getting to be a kid Jerry always said. Once he was grown and back on the mainland, Jerry joined the Air Force in the Spring of 1962. Jerry was a mechanic on the jets and often talked about the many places around the world the Air Force took him to. He would often say he "had been around the world and it is drop dead beautiful--you should go see it."
Once out of the Air Force, Jerry worked a variety of jobs until he found his true calling-sales. He was a salesman at heart and could charm anyone he met, including his favorite, Zig Ziglar. When he retired in 2010, he returned home to gardening. He loved being outside in the sun, working and watching everything.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela, his parents, his in-laws, a daughter-Betty Jean Mercer, and his beloved dog, Sugar.
Survivors include his siblings-Connie Nodine (Jack), Thompson, Georgia and children Eddie and Rhonda; David Wetherington (Linda), West Palm, Florida; Charles "Mickie" Mercer (Connie), Wilmington, North Carolina and children Laura Jean, Jennifer and Pam; and baby brother, as Jerry always called him, William Timothy Wetherington, Monticello, Florida and child Timothy; Jerry's children-Rudy Garcia, Sherri Herman and child David, Excelsior Springs, MO; Katherine Wilson (Kent), Cameron, MO; Travis Mercer (Stephanie), Greenville, South Carolina; Joshua Mercer (Kimberly), Parker, Colorado; and Caleb Bardwell and Ashley Bardwell, Hamilton, MO. Jerry also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, including grandsons-Wesson, Dalton, Maximus and Marshall.
Jerry's wishes were to be cremated following the service because he wanted to return to Key West as he was "a Key West boy at heart."
Funeral Service: 11 a.m., Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Bram Funeral Home, Hamilton, MO.
Formal Visitation: 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, May 17, at the funeral home, just prior to the service.
Cremation has been entrusted to Bram Funeral Home, Hamilton, MO, after the services on Saturday.
Friends may call at Bram Funeral Home on Friday, May 16, from 11 a.m., until 5 p.m.
