Bernie “Don” Donald Melte

Bernie “Don” Donald Melte, age 81, a resident of rural Cowgill, Missouri, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2020, at Golden Age Nursing Home in Braymer.

Don was born the son of Lena Melte on Nov. 8, 1938, in Chillicothe. He attended Polo High School. He was united in marriage to Norma Truitt, starting their journey in 1972. She survives of the home. 

Don worked as a farmer, truck driver, and construction operator. He enjoyed driving racecars, flying airplanes, hunting, and restoring antique tractors and gas pumps.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Melte, of the home; four daughters, Sammy Watson of Braymer, Brenda Mellon of Lawson, Diana Closterman of Higginsville; and Sherry Hein of Montana; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his mother.

A graveside service was held at Cowgill Cemetery in Cowgill, on May 6, 2020. There was no scheduled visitation.
