Billy Gastineau

Billy Gastineau, age 83, of Polo, MO, entered eternal life Wednesday evening, Oct. 11, 2017, at Golden Age Nursing Home in Braymer, after a long, hard struggle with Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS).

It was on October 5, 1934 near Hamilton, that the Lord blessed the home of J.W. and Helen (Cox) Gastineau with the gift of a son. Billy was a 1952 graduate of Braymer High School. On May 16, 1954, he was united in marriage to Mary Jo (Curp) Gastineau at the First Baptist Church of Cowgill.

Billy was a self-employed conservation contractor and farmer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cowgill. At 12 years old, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. Billy loved his family and he loved to work. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Billy liked to joke, laugh and tell stories. He was dearly loved by his family and will be deeply missed.

Mr. Gastineau was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mary Jo, of the home; three daughters, Connie Gastineau of Blue Springs, Wanda Gastineau of Trenton, and Carla (Norman) Burns of Dearborn; three granddaughters, Melody, Brittany and Ashley; grandson, Jeremy (Danielle); great-grandson, Easton; two sisters, Donna Loomis of Topeka, KS and Patty Craven of Florida; two nieces; and two great-nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 14, 2017, at the First Baptist Church of Cowgill. The family received friends one-hour prior to the service at the church. Interment followed the services at the Cowgill Cemetery southeast of Cowgill. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Cowgill in loving memory of Billy Gastineau, and may be left at or mailed to Stith Family Funeral Home, 301 E. Elm St., Polo, MO 64671.

Honored to be serving the family and arrangements are under the direction of Stith Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Polo. An online guestbook may be accessed at www.stithfamilyfunerals.com.
