Bobby “Bob” Gene Gray

Bobby “Bob” Gene Gray, age 65, of Hamilton, MO, passed away on Feb. 8, 2016, at his home.

Bob was born on Feb. 23, 1950, in Downing, on his grandparent’s farm, to Harold and Daisy Shepherd Gray. He was a graduate of the Lancaster High School in Lancaster, and then attended Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville for two years.

Bob had worked as a farmer and had dairy cattle, and from 1990 to 2008, he was the Chief of Custody at Western Missouri Correctional Center in Cameron. From 2008 through the present, he was the administrator of the Daviess County Regional Jail.

Bob thought the world of his grandchildren and adored his family. He was anxiously awaiting the birth of another grandchild in July. He had a very kind heart and was a hard worker. In his free time, Bob enjoyed messing around on the farm by checking his cows, fixing gates, and being outdoors. He loved to watch Chiefs football and avidly attended yard sales collecting chickens and ducks.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold; in-laws, Bud and Wilma Kerby; and brother-in-law, Bill Kerby.

On Jan. 13, 1971, he married Janie Kerby in Lancaster. She survives of the home.

Additional survivors include his children, Michael (Kimi) Gray of Kingston, Brady (Heidi) Gray of Breckenridge, Greg (Amanda) Gray of Hamilton, and Sara (Laren) Groves of St. Joseph; nine grandchildren, Dakota (Joslyn) Gray, Karly (Gage) Johnson, Hanna and Braden Gray, Elizabeth Gray, Kenna, Jade and Rain Gray, and Silas Groves; two great-grandchildren, Tinlee and Timberlynn Gray; mother, Daisy Gray of Lancaster; brothers, Jack (Vicky) Gray and Steve Gray, both of Lancaster; sister, Nancy (Scott) Elliott of Downing; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation has been entrusted to Bram Funeral Home in Hamilton. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Schuyler County Church of Faith in Lancaster. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at Fabius Cemetery in Lancaster. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Fabius Cemetery in Lancaster.
