Darrell D. Moon, Sr.
Darrell D. Moon, Sr., age 77, of Polo, MO, passed away Dec. 29, 2015, at his home. He was born July 29, 1938, in Heartwell, NE, to Archie Moon and Clara Schuman Moon. On Dec. 18, 1977, he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen (Ewing) Moon in Kansas City.
Darrell worked for TWA as a painter and mechanic for 34 years. He served in the US Army for six years. He loved to fish and was an avid bass tournament participant. He will always be remembered as a jokester that was “firm” on the outside but “soft hearted.” His children will always cherish him as an “all-around good dad.” Darrell ate lunch every day at the Caldwell County Nutrition Center and volunteered for the Meals on Wheels program there.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sisters, Ida Edmond, Phyllis Hostler, and Donna Raetiz.
Darrell is survived by his special friend, Donna Marley, of Polo; brother, Archie Moon, Jr. (Sandy) of Wichita, KS; daughter, Melody Mann of Overland Park, KS; son Brek Brown of Phoenix, AZ; daughter, Kimberly Clark of Joplin; son, Darrell Moon, Jr. (Jamie) of Kingston; and daughter Heather Graham (Jim) of Weatherby Lake. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Danielle, Daniel, Dawlson, Makayla, Jalyn, Lydia, Haley, Lindsay, Lucas and Joe and by eight great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 1, at Stith Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Polo, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Jan. 2, at 1:00 p.m. at the Knoxville Community Church, with Military Honors following the service at the church. Inurnment will take place at Kingston Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Caldwell County Nutrition Center or the Knoxville Community Church.
