Douglas Robert Harper

Douglas Robert Harper, age 64, of Hamilton, MO, passed away Saturday, Sept. 8, in Cameron. Doug lived in Hamilton most of his life and in Columbia for a short time.

He was born on Feb. 26, 1954, in Kansas City, to Robert and Geraldine Hedgpeth Harper. He was a 1972 graduate of the Penney High School in Hamilton and went to college at the University of Missouri.

Doug retired from the U.S. Post Office in Hamilton. He was an avid sports fan and coached softball and basketball for many years. He also loved announcing high school basketball games. Doug was very active in helping run golf tournaments in the area as well as playing in them.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his son, Heath; wife, Julie of Chillicothe; step grandson, Austin Busse (Madison) of Chillicothe; and step great-granddaughter, Bristol.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 12, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Hamilton United Methodist Church Family Life Center. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Breckenridge. Friends and family are encouraged to wear their favorite sports team shirts to Doug’s services. Memorials may be made to the family for funeral expenses, the Penney High School Athletic Department, or the Doug Harper Memorial Athletic Scholarship Fund.
