Ernie Norton, Sr.

Ernie Norton, Sr., age 71 of Polo, MO, passed away Monday morning, July 8, 2019, at his home.  Ernie was born on Jan. 18, 1948, the son of Gilbert and Helena (Glenn) Norton in Rome, IN.  He was a 1967 graduate of Polo High School. 

On December 3, 2005, Ernie was united in marriage to Dixie (Leamer) Aubrey in Polo. He was a proud member of the National Rifle Association. Ernie enjoyed going to garage sales, fishing and being ornery. He was witty and had a dry sense of humor. Ernie loved his wife, kids and grandkids. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. The family appreciated Chris Brown and Shirkey Hospice for their wonderful support and care.

Mr. Norton was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Charles Tanner; brother, Shelby Norton; and brother, Todd Norton.

Those left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life include his wife, Dixie of the home; daughter, April (Chris) Fickess of Polo; sons, Ernie (Lyla) Norton of Polo and Jeff (Alinda) Norton of Polo; stepsons, Wally (Jamy) Aubrey of Polo and Jim (Annette) Aubrey of Sedalia; brothers, Wayne (Ruth) Norton of Lee’s Summit and Charlie Tanner of Cowgill; sister-in-law, Wanda Norton of Lee’s Summit; grandchildren: Houston (Joslynn) Stone, Andrew Stone, Luke Fickess, Hunter Fickess, Landon Norton, Layna Norton, Libby Norton, Elly Norton, Kaydence Norton, Gavin Norton, Jeremy (Jessica) Aubrey, Gage Aubrey, Haley Aubrey, Brandon (Morgan) Aubrey, Aimee Aubrey, Mary Reed, and Jack Reed. Other extended family members also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 12, at the Polo Christian Church. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening, July 11, at Stith Family Funeral Home in Polo. Burial will follow the services at Zimmerman Cemetery south of Polo. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Shirkey's Hospice or the Polo Christian Church in loving memory of Ernie Alan Norton Sr., and may be left at or mailed to Stith Family Funeral Home, 301 E. Elm St., Polo, MO 64671. Arrangements are under the direction of Stith Family Funeral Home in Polo. An online guestbook may be accessed at www.stithfamilyfunerals.com.
