Evelyn Ruth Hicklin

Evelyn Ruth Hicklin, age 96, of Hamilton, MO, passed away on May 21, 2019, at the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Hamilton.

Evelyn was born Nov. 27, 1922, in McLouth, KS, to Ernest Rose, Jr. and Ruth Miller Rose. She was a 1940 graduate of Jarbalo High School.

In the summer of 1940, she worked as a waitress at Beal’s Restaurant in Leavenworth, KS, and it was there that she met Ross A. Hicklin. They were married Sept. 7, 1941, in Leavenworth, KS.

Evelyn moved to Hamilton in 1949, when Ross opened the Gamble’s Store on N. Davis Street. Evelyn was a homemaker and worked part-time in various businesses in Hamilton such as the Gamble’s Store, the Hamilton Cleaners, Adams Flower Shop, and the Hamilton Locker Plant. She and Ross retired in 1980 and began enjoying their winters at Rock Shadows, a retirement trailer park in Apache Junction, AZ from 1980-2008.

Evelyn was a member of the Hamilton Federated Church and the Women’s Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed music through singing and playing the piano, violin, accordion, and harmonica.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Norman Miller Rose; two sisters, Neva Rose Massmann and Thamar Barnett; a son, David E. Hicklin; and her husband, Ross.

Survivors include her children, Raymond (Deanna) Hicklin of Hot Springs Village, AR, Harold (Jane) Hicklin of Peculiar, and Elaine Ruth of Hamilton; grandchildren, Lorri (Dave) McKean of Omaha, Shelia (Phillip) Thompson of Driftwood, TX, Doug (Kadi) Hicklin of Omaha, Thomas Hicklin of W. Palm Beach, FL, Sabre Nap of Sandpoint, ID, Jamie (David) Ledgerwood of Lee’s Summit, and Kelly Hicklin of Belton; step grandchild, Hannah Wiseman of Tulsa, OK; great-grandchildren, Ethan Thompson, Kaelyn Thompson, McKenna Ledgerwood and Clayton Ledgerwood.

Cremation has been entrusted to Bram Funeral Home in Hamilton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 31, at the Hamilton Federated Church. Inurnment will be at Highland Cemetery in Hamilton. Memorials may be made to the Hamilton Federated Church. www.bramfuneralservices.com
