George P. Martin

George P. Martin, age 87, a resident of Cowgill, MO, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2019, at NorthCare Hospice House in North Kansas City.

George was born on Sept. 8, 1931, to Ernest Martin and Glenna (Mann) Martin in Bolivar. He was a 1949 graduate of Wheatland High School. He was united in marriage to Glenda (Jordan) Martin on Dec. 28, 1952, in Wheatland.

George was a proud member of the US Marine Corps. He worked at General Motors Leeds plant in Kansas City for 30 years. George also raised cattle at their farm near Cowgill. George was a classic car enthusiast. He enjoyed restoring Studebaker and Kaiser-Frazer cars. He served as a deacon of the First Baptist Church in Cowgill.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda Martin of the home; three sons, Michael Martin of Lee’s Summit, Jeffrey Martin of Chapel Hill, TN, and Brent Martin of St. Joseph; one sister, Karyol Lovett of Bolivar; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gary Martin.

Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Cowgill on Tuesday, April 9, at 10:00 a.m. A scheduled family visitation will be held at the Lindley-Pitts Funeral Home in Braymer on Monday, April 8, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery in Bolivar at 3:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Cowgill, and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.
