Imogene “Genie” Elaine Thompson

Imogene “Genie” Elaine Thompson, age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 17, 2018, at Morningside Center in Chillicothe, MO.

Genie was born June 4, 1933, in Stet, the daughter of R.C. and Alta (Stroud) Eichler. She was raised in Braymer, where she graduated high school. On Dec. 26, 1950, she married Robert “Bob” Lee Thompson in Harrison, AR. They lived a short time in Richmond, Lexington and Clinton, and then settled in Chillicothe to raise their three children.

Genie worked as a clerk over the years at Safeway, Carl’s Superette, J.C. Penney, and Walmart, but her favorite “job” was always that of being a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. In their retirement, Bob and Genie enjoyed working in the garden together, and relaxing and fishing at their cabin at the lake. Genie was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Chillicothe.

Genie is survived by one daughter, Patricia Ann Ferguson of Branson; sons, Robert Michael “Mike” Thompson and Donald “Don” Lee Thompson of Chillicothe; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and two brothers, Ken Eichler of Raytown and Bill Eichler of Kearney.

Genie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; and brother, David Eichler.

A memorial service will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, Dec. 22, one hour prior to the service from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, Dec. 21, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Inurnment will be held at Wheeling Cemetery in Wheeling. Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church of Chillicothe and/or Autism Speaks, and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.
