John J. Sanders

John J. Sanders, age 82, of Polo, MO, passed away Oct. 17, 2015, at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, surrounded by his loving family.
John was born Aug. 12, 1933, in Hays, KS, to Daniel Sanders and Josephine Hertlein Sanders. He was raised by his stepfather, Joseph Lackey, and mother. On Sept. 3, 1955, he was united in marriage to Donna Riedel in Hays, KS. John was retired from Yellow Freight and was a farmer throughout his life. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a sports enthusiast and number one Yankees and Jayhawks fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dolores Johnson. John was also preceded in death by his Uncle Heini and Aunt Lou Hertlein; nephew, John Ashcraft; and mother and father in-law, Barney and Mary Riedel.
John is survived by his wife, Donna, of the home; son, John Sanders, Jr. (Bridget) of Richmond; daughters, Janet Schaal of Kansas City, Brenda Boggess (Bob) of Olathe, KS, Pam Chaudoin (John) of Liberty and Carrie Maidment of Liberty; sons, Mickey Sanders (Chris) of Excelsior Springs and Joseph Sanders (Denise) of Excelsior Springs. John is also survived by 14 grandchildren, John III, Courtney, Christina, Nicole, Bridget, Nikki, Cyle, Trent, Tyler, Ashley, Amy, Alex, Joseph and Samantha and 14 great-grandchildren.
A Rosary will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015, at Stith Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Polo. A visitation will follow immediately after the Rosary from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hamilton. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Kansas City. Memorial gifts are suggested to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hamilton or to the Saint Luke’s Foundation (Neuroscience Department).
