John Warren Allen

John Warren Allen, age 80 of Polo, passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 9th, 2021, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehab in Richmond.

John was born on Nov. 16th, 1940, the son of William Raymond and Lillian Fontell (Herron) Allen in Salina, KS.  He was a 1958 graduate of Polo High School. On May 10, 1963, he was united in marriage to Barbara Dillman in Excelsior Springs.

John served in the United States Navy from May 19th, 1958 until his honorable discharge on Dec. 14th, 1962. John was a self-employed truck driver.  He was a member of the Polo Masonic Lodge #232 and was the Past Master.  John was also a member of the Polo American Legion Post #557 and had served as the Commander for two terms.  He was also a member of the Caldwell County Historical Society and the Polo United Methodist Church.  John never knew a stranger. He liked working on his semi and trying to be a farmer. John was a very patriotic person and supportive of his country. He also was a avid Chiefs and Royals fan. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. 

John was preceded in death by his parents; sisters- Norma Kral, Frances Bates, Doris Lawson, Pat Sethman, Bette Allen, Phyllis Tucker; and a brother- William Allen. 

Survivors include John’s wife, Barbara of the home; son, Danny (Tanya) Allen of Polo; daughter, Tracy Allen of Polo; sister, Mary (Alvin) Miller of Excelsior Springs; grandchildren, Christopher Allen of Polo, William Hall of Richmond, Ashley (Kirk) Magnuson of Wichita, KS, Danielle (Zach) Walker of Kittery, Maine, Jon Allen of Polo and 10 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other extended family members also survive.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Polo United Methodist Church or Shirkey's Hospice in care of the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 14th, 2021 at the Polo United Methodist Church.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. the evening prior (Saturday Nov. 13) at Stith Family Funeral Home in Polo. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial with full military honors will follow at Zimmerman Cemetery south of Polo.
