Karel E. Hazzard

Karel E. Hazzard departed this life March 10, 2018, at the KU Medical Center after a very courageous battle with heart problems and diabetes complications. 

Karel Elizabeth (McLaughlin) Hazzard was born April 4, 1944, the daughter of L. Dale and Leola Elizabeth (Lord) McLaughlin in rural Daviess County. She graduated with honors with the class of 1962 at Hamilton High School and attended Central Missouri State College. 

Karel was united in marriage to Roy Hazzard Jan. 11, 1964, at the Christian Church in Kidder. To this union three children were born, Elizabeth, Roy Jr. and Dale. 
Karel accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at the age of 12 at the Christian Church in Kidder. She was a lady of many talents and had the ability of accomplish many things, whether it was baking a wedding cake or making a wedding gown, as well as driving her favorite John Deere 3010 tractor or an 18-wheeler. She could do it all. She always put others first and had the ability to make each one feel special. Karel was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
Karel was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Ron McLaughlin and Daryl Baker.
Karel is survived by her loving husband Roy of 54 years, of the home; two sons, Roy Hazzard, Jr. (Tracey) of St. Joseph and Dale Hazzard (Jenny) of Gallatin; daughter, Beth Cheesebrough (Eric) of Round Rock, TX; brother, Tony McLaughlin (Sue) of Kansas City; two sisters, Doreen Hacker of Winston and Marlene Hemminger (Neil) of Cameron;   six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14, at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. A visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., where friends may call after 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held at the Highland Cemetery in Hamilton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to the American Heart Association for Women or the Diabetes Association in care of McWilliams Funeral Home.
