Kenneth "Kenny" N. Thomas

Kenneth “Kenny” N. Thomas, age 71, of Polo, MO, went home to be with his Lord Sunday evening, Jan. 6, 2019, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Kenny was born on Feb. 2, 1947, the son of Melvin and Mildred (Robison) Thomas-Burnett in Kansas City, KS. He was a 1964 graduate of Wyandotte High School. Kenny served our country in the US Army during Vietnam from May 13, 1968, until his honorable discharge on Dec. 12, 1969. On January 30, 1971, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Copeland at the Polo United Methodist Church.

Kenny worked various positions for the Kansas City, KS Board of Public Services, retiring as a union carpenter after 32 years in 2002. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, mowing the yard and going on family vacations. He especially enjoyed taking his kids and grandkids to Disney. Kenny loved his family, children and grandchildren. He was known for his dry sense of humor and “corny” jokes. Most important to Kenny was his relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He called the Polo First Baptist Church home for almost 30 years. Kenny will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Everett Burnett; brother, Larry Thomas; and an infant son, Kenneth Thomas, Jr.

Those left to mourn his passing include his wife, Mary Ann; his children, sons, Matthew (Wendy) Thomas and Seth (Abby) Thomas, and daughter, Sarah Thomas; grandchildren, Madelyn, Sophia, and Seth Isaac; niece, Kelli (Jeff) Gentry; sister-in-law, Carol Thomas and son Marcus (Erin) Thomas; cousin, Patricia (Frank) Rounds; three aunts, Dorotha Kieffaber, Arnita (Jack) Kuss, and Ruby Robison; and other extended family members.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday morning, Jan. 10, 2019, at the Polo First Baptist Church with Pastor Marc Knapp and Pastor Wally Aubrey officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the evening prior, January 9, 2019, also at the church. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will follow at Prairie Ridge Cemetery west of Polo. Pallbearers are Jeff Gentry, Chris Copeland, Joe Pitman, Marcus Thomas, Maverick Gentry and Daniel Hess. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Prairie Ridge Cemetery or Three Rivers Hospice in Cameron in care of Stith Family Funeral Home in Polo. Arrangements are entrusted to Stith Family Funeral Home in Polo.
