Larry Franklin Bassett

Larry Franklin Bassett, age 79, a resident of Breckenridge, MO, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018, at Golden Age Nursing Home in Braymer.

Larry was born the son of Leo Pete and Edith Hazel (O’Dell) Bassett on Jan. 12, 1939, in Mirabile. He was a graduate of Breckenridge High School. He served in the US Army from 1962 until 1964.

Larry worked as a farmer all of his life. He served as a Breckenridge volunteer firefighter. Larry was one of several men in Breckenridge that worked together to make sure the town was well maintained, such as roads, sidewalks, and anything else that needed to be done. He always made sure that the senior citizens had corn and tomatoes, and made sure that the children had a nice street fair. Larry tried to help anyone in need when he was in good health.

Survivors include one son, Curtis Bassett of Chillicothe; one daughter, Peggy Bassett of Breckenridge; six grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; and one sister, Wanda Gilgour of Breckenridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Bassett; and five sisters, Beverly Bunch, Shirley Trammell, Doris Deweese, Dixie Johnson, and Lola Evans.

Funeral services will be held at the Pitts Funeral Home in Breckenridge on Friday, Sept. 21, at 1:30 p.m. There is no visitation. Friends may call at the Pitts Funeral Home in Breckenridge on Friday, Sept. 21, from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Memorial contributions may be made to the Larry Bassett Memorial Fund, and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P. O. Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.
