Lonnie Keith Silkwood
Lonnie Keith Silkwood, age 72, of Barnett, MO, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018, at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia. He was born Aug. 8, 1945, in Kingston, a son of the late Ora and Anna (Baker) Silkwood.
On June 5, 1964, in Polo, he was united in marriage to his surviving wife, Norma (Christopher) Silkwood.
Lonnie was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during Vietnam.
He was employed by Ameren as a lineman and later as a meter reader, retiring with more than twenty years of service.
Lonnie was very involved in youth sports when his children were young. He coached baseball, girls and boys basketball, and assisted the high school girls basketball coaches. He was also instrumental in rebuilding the baseball field in Versailles. In addition to cheering for local teams, Lonnie was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.
He was a member of the Versailles Calvary Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, Norma, he is survived by his children, Kelly Hampshire (Brad) of Kansas City, Jared Silkwood of Versailles, and Micah Silkwood (Shalinn) of Kansas City; six grandchildren, Gavin Silkwood, Bre Kamaka, Hunter Hampshire, Marisa Hampshire, Logan Silkwood and Daphne Silkwood; brother, Norman Silkwood (Sandra) of Warrensburg, and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Silkwood, and sister, JoAnn Lewis.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Pastor Chris Bass officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow in the Versailles Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
