Mark Ellis Alden
Mark Ellis Alden, age 61, of Springfield, MO, passed away on Mar. 24, 2018, in Las Vegas, NV. Mark was born in Cameron to Leonard L. and Fayrenne O. (McCrackin) Alden on Aug. 16, 1956. He attended Penney High School in Hamilton and college at Missouri Western State University in Saint Joseph.
Mark was a creative person who loved music, teaching himself how to play the accordion, guitar and drums. He composed many songs over his lifetime. He interpreted architectural drawings for his work and could visualize a room just by walking into it. He was a man of simple means who loved his family and his children. He demonstrated this through acts of love like taking over operating the family farm his senior year in high school when his dad became very ill. He helped to build his mom and dad’s retirement home, including custom designs and handmade cabinetry, and he helped his sisters add on or customize their homes. He was a talented carpenter and woodworker. He was self-employed for much of his life and worked as a construction superintendent for M. C. Construction, Cave Creek, AZ for over 15 years.
Mark had a passion for reading. He questioned everything, using his intellect to probe and explore the world. He enjoyed a spirited, yet always friendly discussion or debate on a wide range of topics from history and religion to current events and politics with a cherished circle of friends and family.
Mark and his dad enjoyed a special bond that was strengthened by their mutual talent of working with their hands. They would spend hours in the shop together creating beautiful pieces. He loved and trusted his mother. He had a deep love for his sisters. His daughters were the great loves of his life, though work related travel took him away from daily contact with them. He took special pleasure in watching them grow into strong and determined women, who are often as opinionated as their father was. He loved being a grandpa to Brayden, and they both looked forward to Mark passing on his love of the guitar to Brayden.
Mark is survived by his parents Leonard and Fayrenne Alden of Warsaw; his former wife, Susan Goforth of Springfield; daughters Breanna (Brennen) Becker of Fort Worth, TX and Bailey Alden and grandson Brayden of Springfield; sisters, Kelley Stuck of Charlottesville, VA and Brenda (Duane) Sander of Smithville.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Apr. 2, 2018, at Glendale Christian Church, 2110 South Blackman Road, Springfield, MO.
