Martha Sue “Susie” (Hill) Martin

Martha Sue “Susie” (Hill) Martin, age 77, of Turney, MO, entered eternal life Sept. 25, 2016, at her home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Susie entered this life May 2, 1939, near Rockingham, in Ray County, the daughter of William Charles and Mae Belle (Knight) Hill. Susie grew up in Cameron and graduated from Cameron High School in 1957. She was a lifeguard and Cameron High School cheerleader. In 1959, she earned her Secretarial Science Certificate from the University of Central Missouri.

On Aug. 6, 1962 she was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Martin at the Pilgrim Presbyterian Church in Cameron. Bob and Susie began their married life in Louisiana, then they moved to Kearney, and eventually settled in Turney, where they started a family with the birth of a son, David. Mrs. Martin received her bachelor’s degree in education in 1978, from the Missouri Western State University. Susie taught kindergarten and learning development for the Osborn School District for the majority of her career. The gift of reading was her passion and was enabled through the softness she exhibited towards all children. Susie was a lifelong sports fan. She was a fan of the Royals and Mizzou basketball. When she became a grandmother, she was an avid sports supporter for her grandchildren. Susie enjoyed playing the flute and piano and brought the love of music and theatre to her family.

Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jack Hill.

She is survived by her husband of the home; son, David (Michelle) of Polo; and grandchildren, Harley, Wiley, Gunnar and Maggie; three nephews, Gary, Mark and Scott; five nieces, Diane, Denise, Dawn, Laurie and Audra and their extended families.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016, at noon at Stith Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Polo, with Pastor Wally Aubrey officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Prairie Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
