Mary Layola McBee

Mary Layola McBee, age 83, a resident of Braymer, MO, passed away from cancer on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2020, at her home.

Mary was born Nov. 19, 1937, in Saline County, KS to Phillip Claude and Pauline Geneva Weis. She attended and graduated high school in Braymer. She married Lavere “Buck” McBee on March 23, 1980. She worked at the Chillicothe Correctional Center for more than 50 years, where she was the first female Major in the State. Mary enjoyed designing and making the most beautiful quilts which she loved giving to family and friends. She also loved raising vegetables and growing flowers, which she generously shared with everyone.

Mary is survived by her husband Lavere “Buck” McBee of the home; her children, Debbie (Alan) Hall of Plattsburg and Joe (Lori) Drummond of Liberty; stepchildren, Teresa Akers of Trenton, Sonny (Wanda) McBee of Cowgill, and Lavere McBee, Lisa Pierce, and Ronnie Pierce, all of Braymer; five grandchildren, nine step grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and 12 step great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; twin sons, Michael and Mitchell Drummond; and brothers, Rodney and Virgil Weis.

Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Braymer on Friday, Dec. 4, at 10:30 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at the Lindley Pitts Funeral Home in Braymer on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Friends may call the funeral home on Thursday, Dec. 3, from noon until 6:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Evergreen Cemetery, and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P. O.
