Mitzi (Minnie Jean) Cunningham Brassea

Mitzi (Minnie Jean) Cunningham Brassea, age 89, of Smithville, MO, formerly longtime resident of Polo, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. 

Mitzi was born on Oct. 11, 1931, in Simmons, MO. Her parents were Richard and Ruby Frisbee Cunningham. She moved to Kansas City with her family when she was a child. She graduated from Excelsior Springs High School with the class of 1948.

She married James A. Brassea on June 28, 1949, in Excelsior Springs. They lived for a short time in Elmira and spent most of their days in Polo. Mitzi was a licensed insurance agent for over 39 years with Summerville Insurance and later Mel Gregg Insurance in Polo. She retired at the age of 86. She was a very active member at her church, Christ Chapel in Polo. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Caldwell County Historical Society and the WWW Club. 

Mitzi was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, in 2006 and an infant son.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jayme and Jay Nixon of Smithville, and her greatest treasures, grandchildren Kyle and Manisha of Davie, FL and Trevor and Kira, both of Smithville; nieces, Dolores and Eugene Easley of Lawson, Carol and Jerry Weiler of Port Angeles, WA, and Rebecca Adams of Lawson; nephews, Richard Byrd of Vancouver, WA, David Nicholson of Alexandria, VA, and Richard Nicholson.

She leaves behind many other great and grand nieces and nephews, and so many friends. The family would especially like to thank Hospice caregivers Roe, Kim and Pat.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Zimmerman Cemetery in Polo. The family respectfully asks that attendees wear a mask and practice social distancing. There is no scheduled family visitation. Friends may view and pay their respects from noon until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Stith Family Funeral Home in Polo. Memorial contributions are suggested to the donor's choice in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Stith Family Funeral Home in Polo.
