Norman Russell Burns

Norman Russell Burns, age 75, a resident of Braymer, MO, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015, at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City.

Norman was born the son of Russell Lyle and Helen Colleen (Keller) Burns on July 10, 1940, in Braymer. Norman was a 1959 graduate of Stet High School. He was united in marriage to Martha Rose on Feb. 4, 1962, in Mandeville. She survives of the home.

Norman worked as a farmer and also worked for Braymer Consumers Oil and Supply. He was a member of the Braymer Baptist Church in Braymer. He was also a member of the Braymer Fox Club. Norman served as treasurer of the Braymer Rural Fire Department in Braymer.

Norman had a pure enjoyment of the outdoors; hunting, fishing and camping. He relished in sharing his outdoor adventures. He also shared this love with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was very passionate about gardening, and was well known for his tomatoes and sweet corn. Norman was always there to help a friend or neighbor, whether it be sharing his bounty of garden produce, cutting wood for them, or just being there as a friend to visit. He treasured his work in his wood working shop and made several toys and benches for his loved ones. Norman loved Martha Kay for 53 years, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very dearly, and when he spoke of them, his love of them radiated for others to see. He will be remembered and missed by all who knew him.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Martha, of the home; two daughters, Suzann Clevenger (Bobby) of Braymer and Nancy Maasdam (David) of Tina; two sons, Russell (Rusty) Burns (Heather) of Bosworth and Scott Burns of Braymer; eight grandchildren, Ryan Clevenger (Jamie) of Braymer, Amanda Clevenger and fiancé Brandon Sneed of Braymer, Steve Clevenger of Braymer, Stephanie Jones (Cohlby) of Carrollton, Brittany Horine (Brandon) of Rayville, Emily Maasdam of Tina, Emma Burns of Bosworth, and Kaitlyn Burns of Bosworth; six great-grandchildren, Connor and Carson Clevenger and Kacie Clevenger, all of Braymer, Addi and Zyler Jones of Carrollton, and Kiah Potts of Tina; one brother, Kenneth Burns of Stet; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at the Braymer Baptist Church in Braymer on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 11:00 a.m. A scheduled family visitation will be held at the Braymer Baptist Church on Saturday, one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Pitts Funeral Home in Braymer on Friday, Nov. 20, from noon until 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Norman Russell Burns Memorial Fund, and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O.
