Peace “Penny” Penningroth Lungren

Peace “Penny” Penningroth Lungren died on June 28, 2018 in Lawrence, KS.

Mrs. Lungren was born on July 25, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, IA, to Louis and Ethel (Blythe) Penningroth. She graduated from the University High School and the University of Iowa in Iowa City. On Dec. 29, 1952, in Iowa City, she married Maurice Lungren. They were married for 52 years. They lived in Lawrence, KS and Liberty, before moving to Hastings, NE in 1965.

Mrs. Lungren taught public school music in Iowa, Kansas, and later Hastings, where the PTA honored her with a lifetime membership. She served on the Hastings Symphony Orchestra Board, the Hastings Community Concert Association Board, and on the Adams County Historical Society.

Mrs. Lungren was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hastings, where she served as an elder, trustee, and president of Presbyterian women. In 1998 she wrote the church’s previous 25-year history. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, P.E.O. (chapters DA and EA) and the American Literature Club.

Mrs. Lungren was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Lungren; her siblings, Phil Penningroth and Nancy Callison.

Survivors include her sister, Elizabeth Cupp, and her children Judy, John and Jim Lungren; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church in Hastings, NE, or to the Hastings Foundation for the Adams County Historical Society. A private burial was held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery at Norborne. Arrangements were under the direction of Lindley Pitts Funeral Home in Braymer. www.lindleyfuneralhome.com
