Richard Lee Ross

 

Richard Lee Ross, age 79 of Kidder, passed away at his home on Nov. 4, 2021. 

He moved to Kidder in 1971 and previously lived in Independence. Richard was born on May 17, 1942, in Lamoni, IA, to John Floyd and Mae (Bierlein) Ross.  He graduated from the Lamoni, IA, high school in 1960. On July 8, 1962, he married Beverly Thompson in Lamoni, IA. 

Richard worked as a lineman and repairman for Southwestern Bell in Excelsior Springs and retired after over 30 years of service. Richard was an active member of the Hamilton Lion's Club, Hamilton Booster Club, and the Caldwell County Historical Society.  He served on the Kidder Park Board helping to establish the walking path through the park among other duties and improvements, was the Mayor of Kidder for many years, served on the Kidder Senior Housing Board, and helped establish the Hamilton Medical Clinic building as well as serving on the board.   His hobbies included gardening always growing onions, potatoes, but especially sweet corn, and attending all of his children and grandchildren's sporting events.  

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brother-John Samuel Ross, and a grandson-Keyes James Lee Ross.

He is survived by wife Beverly Ross (Thompson); children- Ricky, Cindy, and Tucker Ross of Kidder; Kim (Kenny) Dixon of Hamilton; and their children –Zachary (Samantha) Dixon; Trevor (Eileen) Dixon; and Derek Dixon; and Kari (Kenney) Hales of Kearney, MO, and their children Tara (Michael) Kelly and Marcus (Samantha) Hales; 7 great-grandchildren; and brother- Lewis (Betty) Ross of Blue Springs.

Memorial Service to be held at 5 p.m., Monday, Nov. 8, at the Kidder United Methodist Church.

Visitation is from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, Nov. 8, prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hamilton Booster Club or the Hamilton Lion’s Club.
