R.L. Sweem

R.L. Sweem, age 89, a lifetime resident of Hamilton, passed away at his home on Jan. 25, 2017, in Hamilton.

R.L. was born on Dec. 27, 1927, in Breckenridge, to David A. and Della M. (Mussner) Sweem. He honorably served his country in the Army during World War II. He had retired as a truck driver from Farmers Rock and Lime Quarry, which later was owned by and became Trager Quarry. After retirement, R.L. worked numerous years for Highland Cemetery in Hamilton, and was still working and mowing all the way to the age of 88. He greatly enjoyed working and being outdoors.

R.L. was a member of the Hamilton American Legion Post #285.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and one sister.

R.L. married his wife, Alberta Peters on March 27, 1956, in Hamilton, and they had just celebrated 60 years together. She survives of the home.

Additional survivors include his daughter, Becky James of Hamilton; son, Randy (Flo) Sweem of Hamilton; brothers, David Sweem, Jr. and Jerry (Carol) Sweem, both of Hamilton; sister, Doris Lamb of Washington; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation was entrusted to Bram Funeral Home in Hamilton. There will be no formal services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hamilton American Legion Post #285.
