Roger Lee Bennett

Roger Lee Bennett, age 60, of Polo, MO, passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born Dec. 18, 1956, the son of Clarence E. and Mable K. (Hayes) Bennett in Kansas City.

Roger’s family moved to Polo in the 1960’s and he was a 1975 graduate of Polo High School. In his early years, Roger worked as a steel worker. He also worked at the elevator south of Polo and was a carpenter. Last year Roger retired from the Missouri Department of Corrections, where he had worked for 26 years as a corrections officer in Cameron.

Throughout his life he stayed heavily involved with the operation of his family's farm just outside of Polo. On Feb. 22, 1983, he was united in marriage to Cheryl Richardson in Plattsburg. Roger was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the “Coffee Drinking Club” at the Red Rooster in Polo. He loved horses, anything to do with guns, and driving around the country roads with Cheryl and a malt from the Panther Drive-In. Roger enjoyed hunting, trapping, and predator calling. Roger was a simple man who did what he was supposed to do; he went to work, took care of things at home, and enjoyed his friends and his family. He loved to take care of his mother, his children and his whole family, whom he loved deeply. Roger will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Clarence Emerson (Sonny) Bennett and Michael Bennett.

Roger leaves to mourn his passing his mother, Mable of Polo; wife, Cheryl, of the home; son, Adam Bennett (Lori) of Jacksonville, FL; three daughters, Miranda Rose (Ben) of Kettering, OH, Katey Bennett of North Kansas City, and Lauren Bennett of Kansas City; one grandson, Grant Emerson Rose of Kettering, OH; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation will be held Monday, Dec. 26, 2016, at Stith Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Polo, where the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Inurnment will occur at a later date at Prairie Ridge Cemetery in Polo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Mirabile Ladies Aid or the Caldwell County Foundation-Cancer Assistance Fund in memory of Roger Lee Bennett, and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to P.O Box 56, Polo, MO 64671.
