Van Jay Horseman

Van Jay Horseman, 75, Hamilton, MO., passed away on June 19, 2023, at the Missouri Veteran's Home, Cameron, MO. He moved to the New York community southeast of Hamilton in 1972 from Platte County, MO.

Van was born on October 29, 1947, in Leavenworth, KS., to John Tilford and Mable Toy Horseman.  He graduated from the Weston, MO., high school in 1965.  After high school he completed mechanic training in the Air Force before serving in Vietnam.  He served his country in the Air Force as a mechanic during the Vietnam conflict and was honorably discharged.  

Van was a man who wore many hats.  He was a self-employed farmer, New York School District school bus driver for over 24 years, a New York School janitor and school board member serving as president.  Van also was a New York Township tax collector, road maintainer operator, and a past MFA Oil delivery driver.  Additionally he was a dispatch trucker for Rooney Trucking and the United States Postal Service, as well as the water board president for PSW III.  He was a friend to all. 

Van was a member of the Braymer American Legion Post #117, a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church, he attended the Missouri Veteran's Home church services, and he loved to go to ballgames to watch his kids and grandkids.  In his spare time he enjoyed watching westerns on television and attending monster truck shows.

Preceding Van in death were his parents, sons-Johnnie Riley and Timothy Scott; and his childhood friend/blood brother, Johnnie Henderson.

On February 18, 1977, he married Connie Riley in a wedding chapel in Miami, OK.  She survives of the home.

Additional survivors include daughter-Lesley Ann Robertson (David); son-Zachary Jay Horseman (Christyn); granddaughter-Mikayla Marie (fiance Weston Lindstrom); grandsons-Ryan Scott Robertson, Justin Gage Robertson, Bentley Dye Kilgore and Braiden Dye Kilgore, all of Hamilton; foster granddaughter-Hanna Robertson; brother-Frank "Vernes" Horseman, Port Charlotte, FL; sister-Patricia Brown, Platte City, MO.; and several other relatives and friends.  

Funeral Service:  11 a.m., Monday, June 26, 2023, at Bram Funeral Home, Hamilton.

Formal Visitation:  9:30 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m., on Monday, June 26, at Bram Funeral Home.

Interment:  Highland Cemetery, Hamilton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cameron, Missouri Veteran's Home Assistance League.

Friends may call on Sunday, June 25, from noon until 3 p.m., and Monday morning beginning at 8 a.m.
