Velora Eckelberry

Velora Rose Eckelberry, age 86, of Hamilton, MO, passed away at her home on May 22, 2017. She lived in Hamilton most of her life and had previously lived in Osborn.

Velora was born on Nov. 17, 1930, in Fortuna, to Silas and Sophia (Rodner) Hofstetter. She graduated from high school and attended college for two years in Warrensburg. She taught school in Orrick and Osborn.

Velora was a very active member of the Hamilton United Methodist Church and had been the president, vice president, and had held other offices, as well as being a funeral dinner committee woman for the United Methodist Women. She was also active in the past in the 4-H Whizzers Club of Hamilton, and was a 53 year member of PEO Chapter N of Hamilton.

She married William L. “Bill” Eckelberry on April 27, 1952, and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her parents, and her daughter, Patricia Sanderson.

Survivors include a son, Kenny Eckelberry, of the home; daughter, Carol Deen of Overland Park, KS; sister, Merrilyn Bookout of Tipton; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at the Hamilton United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at Highland Cemetery in Hamilton. Memorials may be made to the Hamilton United Methodist Church.
