Virgil Leroy Weis

Virgil Leroy Weis, age 85, a resident of Hillcrest Manor in Hamilton, MO, formerly of Braymer, passed away on Monday, Aug. 19, 2019.

Virgil was born the son of Claude and Pauline (Wiley) Weis on May 24, 1934, in Beverly, KS. Around the age of seven, his family moved to the Braymer area, where Virgil spent his whole life. He graduated from Braymer High School in 1953. In 1954, he joined the US Army, where he served honorably. Virgil was united in marriage to Lettie Fitzwater, also of Braymer, on Jan. 15, 1955, in Kingston. To this union, three children were born. They were married for 64 years. Upon his return home from the Army, they started a lifelong career as farmers and had a Grade A Dairy for many years.

After retiring from the dairy business, Virgil had several other jobs as they continued to farm. He sold insurance for Caldwell County Insurance, was a janitor at the Braymer School, and then drove a school bus for over 20 years.

Survivors include his wife, Lettie, of Hillcrest Manor in Hamilton; one daughter, Brinda Prichard of rural Hamilton; one son, Chad Weis of Greenridge; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Leonard Weis of Braymer; and three sisters, Yvonne Murray and Mary McBee, both of Braymer, and Judy Claypole of Polo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Scott Weis; and one brother, Rodney Weis.

Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Braymer on Friday, Aug. 23, 2019, at 1:30 p.m. There is no scheduled visitation. Friends may call at the Lindley Pitts Funeral Home in Braymer on Friday, Aug. 23, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Evergreen Cemetery, and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O.
