Virginia Lucille Jones

Virginia Lucille Jones, age 87, of Brookfield, Mo., passed away on July 23, 2016, at the Life Care Center of Brookfield.

Virginia was born the daughter of Robert Lee Lunsford and Tobitha (McBride) Lunsford on Oct. 6, 1928, near Cowgill. She attended Baker Hill grade school near Cowgill and Harrison grade school near Hamilton. She graduated from Hamilton High School in 1946 and the Chillicothe Business College in 1947.

She met and married William Edward “Bill” Jay in Mercer. They were the parents of twins, William Gaylen and Janet Gayle on June 20, 1950, and a son, Kenneth Edward, on March 22, 1956. Bill passed away June 23, 1960.

On March 26, 1961, she married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth “Casey” Jones and moved near Brookfield. They became the parents of a daughter, Donna Jean, on Feb. 11, 1969. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on March 26, 2016.

Virginia was a longtime member of the South Eagle United Methodist Church. She loved her church family and friends and teaching Sunday school classes for over 40 years. She wrote the South Eagle News for several years until her health required her retirement. She loved and enjoyed her family, many friends, country music, sewing, and gardening. Her greatest love was being Casey’s wife, being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Casey Jones, of the home; six children, Gaylen “Bill” Jay (Barb) of St. Louis, Gayle Craigg (Robert) of Callao, Kenny Jay (Peggy) of Brookfield, Randy Jones (Tammy) of Naples, FL, Donna Jones of Tucson, AZ and Robert Jones; eight grandchildren, Julee Jenkins (David) of Bevier, Aaron Betts of Harrisburg, Jennifer Salmon of Brookfield, Kenny Bill Jay (Marianne) of Hallsville, Jesse Jones (Courtney) of Arcadia, FL, and Nicole, Joshua and Caroline Bohney of Tucson, AZ; nine great-grandchildren, Shelby Lawless, Shawn Hill, Kayla Jennings, Arthur Betts, Erica, Faythe, and Ethan Salmon, Jesse Jones II, and Ava Jones; four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.

Virginia was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jayne; one great-granddaughter, Alexis Betts; one grandson, Dustin Jay; four sisters; and two brothers.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 27, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Rhodes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 28, at 10:00 a.m. at the South Eagle United Methodist Church in Brookfield. Burial at Park Lawn Memorial Cemetery will follow. Memorials are suggested to the South Eagle United Methodist Church, and may be left at or sent to Rhodes Funeral Home, 216 Linn Street, Brookfield, MO 64628.
