Wanda C. Decker

Wanda Carolyn Decker, age 71, passed away at 8:10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020, at the Lincoln Community Care Center, where she had been a resident since April 30, 2020.

She was born Jan. 13, 1949, to J.D. and Marjorie Jewell in Chillicothe.

She grew up on the family farm west of Kingston, attending Kingston Elementary School through the eighth grade and graduating from J.C. Penney High School in Hamilton in 1967. Later she attended what was then Central Missouri State College, graduating in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in Education majoring in Physical Education and with a minor in Biology.

In September 1970 Wanda met David Decker. They were married Feb. 28, 1971, in Hamilton at the United Methodist Church. David and Wanda had two children, Jason and Lindsey.

They made their home in Lincoln for nearly 50 years. Wanda taught at Warsaw, Northwest, Cole Camp, Windsor, and Lincoln, teaching physical education, various science courses, health, and coached track and volleyball. In 1978, she completed her master’s degree from Central Missouri State University. In 2002, Wanda retired from full-time teaching after 29 years. She then taught part-time for 14 more years until 2016.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents.

Surviving is her husband, David, of the home; her son, Jason (Priscilla) of Crown Point, IN, and her daughter, Lindsey, and daughter-in-law, Kelsi, of Lee’s Summit; three grandchildren, Andrew, Norah and Ellie Decker of Crown Point, IN; a brother, Gene Jewell (Nancy) of Lee’s Summit; her mother-in-law, Ruby Decker of Lincoln; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and many lifelong friends. She will be deeply missed by both her family and friends.

A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Due to COVID, masks and social distancing will be required. Private funeral services will be held following the visitation with private interment in Lincoln Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alan Bancroft, John Cox, Marlin Hammond, Paul Kelly, Marc Spunaugle, and David Wanninger. The service will be conducted by Rev. Renae Watt of the Lincoln United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Lincoln Community Care Center in care of the funeral home or mailed to 205 Timberline Drive Lincoln, MO 65338. Services are under the direction of Davis-Miller Funeral Home in Lincoln, MO.
