William Gene DeLisle

William Gene DeLisle, age 89, a resident of Cowgill, MO, formerly of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019, at Golden Age Nursing Home in Braymer.

Bill was born the son of William and Ida (Haslip) DeLisle on Oct. 25, 1930, in Ozark. His father passed away when Bill was 12 years old. He and his sisters, grandfathers, uncles, mother, and the rest of his siblings helped on the family farm to provide for the family.

He graduated from high school in 1948. After high school, he worked for two years at the cheese factory in Ozark, before enlisting in the Air Force. William served in the US Air Force for four years in California, Wyoming, Louisiana, and Sedalia. Following his service in the Air Force, he was a Tech Sergeant in the Reserves for eight years. He went on to earn a degree in Business Administration from Southwest Missouri University. For 33 years, he worked for the IRS as a Field Agent, Office Audit Supervisor, Program Manager, and Branch Chief in Kansas City and in Memphis, TN. He spent 20 years preparing tax returns for the elderly. Bill was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Springfield.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Ann DeLisle of the home; two sisters, Doris Tilton of Mt. Vernon and Donna Barnett of Nixa; one brother, Jim DeLisle of Topeka, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Eileen Stockton, Ruth Cole, and Linda Rothermel; and one brother, Bob DeLisle.

Funeral services were held at the Lindley Pitts Funeral Home in Braymer on Dec. 23 at 2 p.m. A scheduled visitation was held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial was at Cowgill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Homes, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.
