Not Good, Mr. Trump

Fellow Americans,

On March 23, 2018, President Donald Trump signed the largest spending bill in U.S. history!  According to an article on www.forbes.com, this $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill included funding (our money) for the National Park Service, the IRS, Planned Parenthood, the National Endowment for the Arts and Humanities, and the fight against the “opioid crisis” among other things.  More importantly, it failed to defund Obamacare and sanctuary cities, while failing to provide funding for the border wall!  Trump’s key campaign issue was border security, yet he signed a bill that failed to provide for that!  According to the bill, our federal government will be able to “enhance the border security to nations adjacent to conflict areas, including Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, and Tunisia.”  Simply put, we can secure borders in other nations but not in America!

Merriam-Webster’s definition of “omnibus” is “containing or including many items.”  Well, this 2,232 page bill is certainly an omnibus!  Why did Congress create such a large bill?  I think it’s because a bill of this bulk and magnitude is nearly impossible to comprehend.  A bill which is not understood makes a great hiding place for all kinds of frivolous spending!  Trump should have vetoed this grossly unaffordable, immensely bloated bill, especially after making border security the bedrock of his presidential campaign!  By signing this bill, President Trump failed to hold members of Congress accountable for their spending.  He has become part of the problem, part of the “swamp.”  This may very well come back to bite all of them in the midterm elections.  If the Democrats gain the majority in Congress, Trump will likely join a small and infamous group of impeached presidents!

Here is the bottom line: we can’t afford this massive bill!  It is perilous and immoral to burden our kids and grandkids with this debt.  Our government has a severe SPENDING problem, not a revenue problem.  This isn’t rocket science.  The government has two choices.  It can raise revenue (increase taxes) or lower expenses.  The Constitutional answer is to reduce spending, and reducing the size of government is how it starts.  If a private business must operate within a budget, why shouldn’t our government?

Visit www.usdebtclock.org and see the damage for yourself.  Please pray for our leaders and our country.  May God bless you and the United States of America!
