Braymer Bobcats Sectional and Quarterfinal Games

The Bobcats started the week with a bang by winning their Sectional playoff game against Bucklin-Macon County on Monday May 23rd at Anderson Memorial Park.

The Bobcats’ defense was flawless for the game committing zero errors in 7 innings of play. Gabe Rogers got the win for the Bobcats, pitching the first 4 innings. He had 4 strike outs, 3 walks, and allowed 4 runs off of 4 hits. Jordan Miller recorded the save with 5 strike outs, 1 walk, and allowed no hits in the last 3 innings.

Bucklin was the home team and was the first to put runs on the board, scoring 1 run in the first inning. Braymer was able to take the lead in the top of the 3rd inning off of a 2 run single by Drake Parker. Bucklin again took the lead in the bottom of the 4th scoring 3 runs, but the Bobcats answered in the top of the 5th scoring 3 runs of their own off of a 2 run double from Jordan Miller and a one run single by Drake Parker.

After 3 more innings of intense defense, the Bobcats held their lead and won the game with a score of 5-4, advancing them into the State Quarterfinals.

Total hits for the Bobcats were: Drake Parker- 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs, Jordan Miller- 1 for 2 with a double scoring 2 RBIs, Logan O’Dell- 1 for 4 with a double, and Corbin McCulley- 1 for 3 with a single.

The Bobcats racked up 12 hits against Northwest Hughesville in their State Quarterfinal game on Wednesday May 25 at Anderson Park, but fell short of the win with a score of Northwest 15, Braymer 11.

Northwest took the lead in the first inning scoring 3 runs, but the Bobcats answered with 3 runs of their own off of a RBI double by Drake Parker and RBI single by Robbie Shoe. Northwest scored two more runs in the second that weren’t answered by the Bobcats. Two runs in the bottom of the fourth helped the Bobcats close its deficit to 8-5 from an RBI single by Jordan Miller and RBI single by Drake Parker.

A rally in the 7th inning helped to close the gap for the Bobcats, but wasn’t enough to take the lead. The Bobcats scored 4 runs off of an RBI double by Gabe Rogers and an RBI single by Jake Gladieux. Keaton O’Dell took the loss for the Bobcats from the mound, but gave a great effort.

The Bobcats put forth their entire pitching staff trying to stop Northwest’s bats, but the Bobcat’s ended the game with 7 errors, which was unusual for a team with strong defense.

Total hits for the Bobcats were: Jordan Miller- 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs, Drake Parker- 2 for 4 with 4 RBIs, Gabe Rogers- 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs, Robbie Shoe- 2 for 4 with 1 RBI, Keaton O’Dell- 2 for 5 with 1 RBI, and Jake Gladieux- 1 for 3 with 1 RBI.

Although they fell short of the win, the Bobcats baseball team (coached by Keith Edmonston and Kenny Joe Rogers) made their families, school, and community proud with an awesome 2016 season. They made school history by taking their team further into the post season than any other Bobcat baseball team. Congratulations Bobcats!
