Lady Cats from Braymer take home first place in Pattonsburg tourney

The Lady Cats Softball team traveled to Pattonsburg on Saturday to take part in the First Annual George Scurlock Memorial Tourney.

Their first game was against the Ladies of Mercer. Braymer scored 1 run in the first, 10 in the second, 3 in the third, and 2 in the fourth. Mercer scored 1 run in the fourth. Final score was 16 to 1 after 4. Maggie Phillips and Gabby Saul each hit doubles. Gabby had 3 RBIs, Maggie, Jasmine Taylor, and Shelby Anderson each had 2 RBIs, Cheyenne Hall, Taylor Francis, Disney Fry, Kelsey Stone, and Tori Smith each had 1. Jasmine, Kelsey, and Shelby each stole 2 bases, Maggie, Disney and Kayla Henry each stole 1. Kelsey was the winning pitcher with 5 strikes outs to here credit.

In the second game the Lady Cats faced the Pattonsburg ladies. The Lady Cats jumped to an early lead with 6 runs in the first, 4 in the second and 3 in the fourth while holding Pattonsburg scoreless for a 13 to 0 win. Shelby Anderson hit a double and Emily Youtsey a triple during the game. Shelby had 4 RBIs, Mason Shoemake and Kelsey Stone each had 2 RBIs and Gabby Saul, Taylor Francis, and Emily each had 1. Mason, Kayla, Jasmine, Kelsey, Jadyn Murray, and Shelby each had a stolen base. Kelsey was again the winning pitcher with 4 strikes in this game. 

In the third game of the day they were up against Princeton. Both teams scored one run in the first, Braymer scored 1 run in both the second and third. No one scored in the fourth or fifth. Princeton scored 1 run in the top of the sixth with Braymer coming back with 2 runs. Princeton scored 1 run in the top of the seventh but it wasn’t enough. Braymer won 5 to 3 taking home the first place plaque. Jasmine and Tori each hit doubles. Maggie, Gabby, Jasmine, Kelsey, and Shelby each had an RBI. Jasmine and Kelsey were each credited with a stolen base. Kelsey struck out 8 in this win.

The girls now have a 10 to 9 record season going into districts.
