Lady Hornet Seniors Celebrate With a Victory

Coach Jim Dickey's Lady Hornets celebrated senior night with a victory over Lexington, but it wasn't easy.

Lexington's Barnes hit a 3 run homer in the top of the first. Hamilton got 1 back in the bottom of the inning when McKauley Prothero drove in Kersten Crawford. Penney High scored another run in the 3rd when Georgia Gibler led off with a walk and was replaced with courtesy runner Sarah Hartley. Prothero reached on an error and Hartley moved to 3rd. Sydney Bottorff drove in Hartley with a sacrifice bunt. Hamilton tied the score in the 5th when, with 2 out, Gibler walked. Hartley again came in to run for Gibler. Prothero singled and Hartley scored on an error. Lexington regained the lead on a home run by Miller in the 6th. With the Hornets trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the 7th, Alexx Angle led off with an infield single. Lyndi Heldenbrand reached on an error, and Angle moved to 3rd. Crawford walked ahead of Gibler's game tying sacrifice fly, scoring Angle and Heldenbrand going to 3rd. Prothero followed with the game winning hit, driving in Heldenbrand. Sydney Bottorff pitched 7 innings throwing 22 first pitch strikes, and striking out 7 with no walks to get the win.

Prothero led Hamilton with 3 hits and 2 RBI's. Alexx Angle also recorded 2 hits and scored 1 run. Georgia Gibler had 3 quality at bats, walking twice, getting hit by a pitch, and driving in 1 run with a sacrifice fly. Crawford walked once, got 1 hit, and scored a run. Heldenbrand registered 1 hit and scored a run. Sarah Hartley scored 2 runs, and Bottorff had a sacrifice for an RBI. Lexington had 6 hits and committed 4 errors compared to Penney with 7 hits and 4 errors. The Hornets record improves to 13-4.
