Lady Hornets Over Putnam County 7-2

The Penney High softball team, coached by Jim Dickey and assisted by Justin Joiner, traveled to Unionville to play a non-conference game against Putnam County.

The contest remained scoreless until Hamilton broke through with 2 runs in the top of the third. Unionville came back with one of their own in the home half of the 4th, but the Lady Hornets scored 2 runs in the 5th and 3 more in the 6th while holding Putnam County to only 1 more run in the 6th for a 7-2 Penney High win.

Hamilton out hit Unionville 9-6, and Putnam County committed 7 errors to the Hornet's 3.  Sydney Bottorff pitched 7 innings, striking out 9 with a WHIP (walks + hits per inning pitched) of .86, and drove in 2 runs. Georgia Gibler had 3 hits and walked once. Kersten Crawford had 2 hits, Sarah Hartley drove in 1 run and 2 quality at bats, Halee Orr drove in 1 run, and McKauley Prothero walked once.
