Polo's junior Gunnar Martin breaks State record.

Polo defeats Braymer 68-32, now ranked first in District 8 MSHSAA standings

Head coach Kyle Ross sums up the match-up between two Caldwell County football teams last Friday night at the Bobcat Stadium. Ross had this to say about the game, "First of all, I would like to acknowledge both teams emotional control and sportsmanship that was shown by both sides throughout the game. If this was possibly the last meeting between two 11 - man football rivals, I was glad to see it played the way it was; hard and with athletes each helping one another up off the ground after the plays. For the Panthers, we had to make some personnel changes for this game with three of our sophomores Drake Burton, Luke Cory, and Seth Pate being the key pieces for these substitutions. All three of them did a great job. We were also able to see a glimpse of the future at running back with freshman Nick Myers carrying the ball 9 times for 53 yards and 1 TD (1 pat run). Defensively, I would like to note that we were able to adjust some of our alignment issues and assignment issues at half time and only allow Braymer one score in the 2nd half."

Rushing for the Panthers was led by junior Gunnar Martin with 20 carries for 370 yards, he had 7 touchdowns and one PAT run. Senior Israel Alsbury had 11 carries for 84 yards and 1 touchdown, sophomore Drake Burton had 5 carries for 37 yards and 1 PAT run, freshman Nick Myers had 9 carries for 53 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 PAT run. Passing for the Panthers: Brandon Hubbard went 2/4 for 56 yards. Receiving: Senior JJ Zeigler had one catch for 53 yards.

The Panthers defense was led by junior Jake Leonard with 17 tackles, Alsbury ended with 12 tackles and 1 tackle for a loss, Chance Carr had 12 tackles and Burton ended with 11.  Zeigler and Hubbard each had an interception.

Polo is now ranked first in the District 8 MSHSAA Football standings. The top three teams are: Polo with a 6-1 record and 42.05 points, Penney is second with a 5-2 record and 39.4 points and King City is third with a 5-1 record and 37.89 points. Polo will host King City Friday, October 9, at 7 PM at Shearer Stadium.
