Polo ends season with 2nd place at Districts

The Polo Lady Panthers competed in the District 7 Championship game last Saturday at 1 p.m. against the Norborne Lady Pirates (23-1), at Norborne. History repeated itself for the second year in a row for the Lady Panthers team. Polo fell to the strong Norborne team in just 2 1/2 innings, 16-1. 

The Polo Lady Panthers offense dominated in their first District 7 game played on Thursday, October 8, against the Braymer Lady Bobcats. Polo tied up the game with a home run from junior Jenni Farmer in the fifth inning. Farmer racked up 4 RBIs on three hits for the Lady Panthers. She tripled in the first inning, singled in the second inning and homered in the fifth. To help raise the score for the Lady Panthers, Joely Hicks hit a ground out, they scored on an error, and Billie Thompson hit an RBI double. With a tied score at the bottom of the seventh 10-10, the teams battled it out in an additional inning. The Polo Panthers took the lead in the eighth inning and held on for the victory. A passed ball scored Taylor Wagner to give the Lady Panthers the lead for good. Polo beat Braymer in a nail biter 11-10.

The teams totaled 33 hits, including eight extra base hits in the game. The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to nine lead charges in the game.

Farmer got the win in relief for Polo. Farmer pitched four innings and allowed four runs. Destiny Cosgrove took the loss in the circle for Braymer. She allowed 11 runs in 7 1/3 innings, walked one and struck out none. Polo ended their season with a 12-10 record.
