Marjorie "Marj" Arlene Edwards

Marjorie Arlene Edwards

Marjorie “Marj” Arlene Edwards of Hamilton, born March 22, 1932, passed away in Mansfield, TX. on March 10, 2024, at the age of 91. Marj was an extraordinary person who played many important roles in her life as a mother, grandmother, wife, sister, daughter, and friend. She was a devout Christian who spent a lot of time reading her Bible and loved Jesus. For many years, she was an active member at Frankfort United Methodist Church, in Frankfort IL. She was passionate about taking notes, knew shorthand, and regularly copied scripture to which she added notes and insights.

Marj married John Daryl Edwards on June 13, 1954. The wedding was held at the family farm in Nettleton, MO. She was an expert seamstress and made her wedding dress for the special occasion. Marj and John settled in Matteson, IL, and were happily married for 54 years, until John's passing in 2008. Marj loved him dearly and is now reunited with him for eternity.

Marjorie attended a country school near Nettleton for primary school, Hamilton High for her high school education, and Central Missouri State University / University of Missouri for higher education. After graduating from the University of Missouri, Marj began her career as an elementary school teacher. She taught in Missouri and Illinois for over 37 years. Her favorite grade was 1st grade. She was exceptionally creative and found joy in helping her students grow and learn.

Marj was quiet in nature, but she had a competitive spirit and enjoyed sports. She passed down this trait to her children and took pleasure in watching her kids and grandkids compete in sports and performances. Marj also had a soft spot for animals and was affectionately referred to as the "dog whisperer" by her kids. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, completing word search puzzles, and bowling. Despite her ongoing struggle with glaucoma, and later macular degeneration that caused her to lose most of her eyesight, Marj maintained her fun-loving personality and sharp sense of humor until Jesus called her home. Marjorie is survived by her children: Raymond (Suz), Jerrylin (Denny), Kathleen (Chip), and Brenda (Stephen), her grandchildren: Tyler, Anna Grace, and Madilyn, her brothers: Carl (Ernestine) and Norman (Delores), as well as nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her spouse: John, her parents: Claude and Mildred, her sibling: Marilyn (Howard), and her in-laws: Raymond and Delta.

A Celebration of Life Service will take place at a later date to honor and remember Marjorie Arlene "Marj" Edwards.
